50+ Things to Do in Odessa, TX This Fall

Summer is over and maybe we can all catch a break with the hot temperatures. Even if the Odessa area doesn't cool down to optimal fall weather, we can all collectively pull out our sweaters and switch our iced coffee to hot coffee.

If you’re wanting to get into the Fall spirit, you’ll need some festive things to do, because with the new season comes new things to do in Odessa.

Hot Drinks & Pumpkin Treats

For the few days a year that West Texas will get chilly, these hot drink spots will warm your bones and will look great on your Instagram grid. Just in time for #PSLSeason, you just can’t beat a baked good with your hot coffee.

Press Cafe- On the edge of town by Ford is coffee heaven. Order any of their hot drinks to keep warm and cozy this Fall season from Press Cafe.

CPL Rays- Try something new outside of your usual Pumpkin Spice Latte or just black coffee at CPL Rays. FALL in love with a new drink and call it your new Fall go-to. 

DoughBoy’s Cafe- DoughBoy’s will be the perfect place for getting your pumpkin dessert craving taken care of while also enjoying a hot drink. Be sure to catch them in the mornings and early afternoons. 

Chelsea’s Teas- With just about every flavor offering in the book, Chelsea’s Teas needs to be on your list for hot and cozy drinks this Fall. An added bonus is their extensive sugar-free flavor options. 

Presotea Odessa- Your favorite teas, but with a spin and a few bubbles. 

Coffee 903- There are never enough options for local coffee around Odessa, but we are glad there’s Coffee 903. You’ll find all of your favorites and many more at this spot. 

The Human Bean- A quick stop for coffee or other fall drinks is exactly what you need with your busy schedule. The seasonal drink options will have you returning over and over again.

La Fiesta Bakery- Enjoy traditional Mexican sweet breads alongside other baked goods and pastries. Pair it with any of these hot drink options around down and life will be so, so sweet.

Fat Jack’s Bakery- All of your favorite desserts and treats all in one spot. Nothing’s better than that!

Cake Mix- Another stop around town to get your carb fill and pumpkin craving covered. 

 

Outdoor Fun

The weather is finally nice enough where you won’t have to endure third-degree burns on your legs from your car seats and you can sit outside with only minor sweating. Here are some festive options for getting outside this season.

The Bridge Church Pumpkin Patch- Local to the Odessa area is the annual Bridge Church Pumpkin Patch.  With opportunities to take cute pictures of the kids and of course, tons of pumpkins, you’ll find the perfect pumpkin for carving. 

Fiddlesticks Farms- Just a short drive into Midland is tons of Fall fun. From pumpkins to hayrides to corn mazes, and farm animals, it doesn't get better than that. The farm will be open starting September 25th for the Fall season. 

Mandujano Farms- Another patch that’s a little farther away but still tons of fun is at Mandujano Farms. Not only do they have pumpkins, but other seasonal fruits and veggies that are there for picking and all around festive fun. 

UTPB Walking Trail- A great way to get your steps in but enjoy the nice Fall days is happening at the UTPB Walking Trail. There are several routes depending on your mileage. 

Stonehenge Replica- While you’re at UTPB, you need to visit the replica of the well-known piece. The perfect time for visiting this piece is right after a walk on the UTPB walking trail around sunset where the sun hits the sculpture. Golden hour vibes, for sure.

Catch Some Jackrabbits- Maybe you know exactly what we mean or you’re new around here and wondering why there are random bunny statues around town. There are a total of 32 rabbits around Odessa, see if you can spot them all. 

Comanche Trail- Sometimes it’s hard to find some good Fall foliage around this part of Texas, but on this trail, the colors are transformative in taking you out of Odessa. It’s a great chance to get outside. 

Visit a Cemetery- Don’t hate it until you try it! For a spooky adventure around town, Odessa has a few spots that will definitely set the mood for Halloween. Check out Sunset Gardens or Ector County Cemetery. Obviously, be respectful of the grounds and other people that might be there.

Movie Under the Stars- A Halloween class, Hocus Pocus is the feature film for Wagner Noël’s Movie Under the Stars. (October 22)

West Texas Fest - In support of the Ellen Noël Art Museum, the 5th Annual West Texas Fest will feature beer tastings from local breweries as well as kid friendly activities.  

Parks Legado Farmers Market- To wrap up the summer and welcome the fall, the Parks Legado Farmers Market hosts over 80 vendors with tons of local goods and products. 

Odessa, Texas Farmers Market- Alternating with the other farmers markets, the Odessa, Texas Farmers Market hosts local businesses on Saturdays. Enjoy shopping, food, and music in the heart of Downtown Odessa.

UTPB Duck Pond- Visit with the ducks on the UTPB campus before it’s too chilly with the winter. Don’t forget to bring snacks and to visit the walking trail while you’re at it. 

4 Kidz Fun Park- Fun for the kids if the weather is not permitting any outside play. This locally owned spot is fun for any time of year. 

The Painted Pottery- Let out your creative side with this local spot for creating your own pottery. With classes for adults and kids, the options are endless. 

Diamond Lanes- We’ll SPARE you the details since this is one of Odessa’s happening spots. For those West Texas days that are either a little too hot or a little too cold, Diamond Lanes is the answer to both. 

Apple Picking- The Orchard (Idalou)- A little day trip can turn into a lot of fun. Outside of Lubbock, you’ll find the small town of Idalou, Texas where the public is free to pick apples during the fall season. 

Trunk or Treats- There’s no shortage of trunk or treats around the area during Halloween. This is a safer option if you’re not super familiar with where to find the King Size candy bars around Odessa. Keep an eye out for our post on Halloween in Odessa. 

Pecan Orchard- C&M Pecans (Gardendale)- For all your buying, selling, and shelling needs, C&M is the perfect Fall stop for pecans. Pick up everything from pecan flavored treats to gift baskets for the upcoming holidays.

Copper Kettle Cafe- All of your homemade favorites just in time for fall is here and only here at the Copper Kettle Cafe. Their breakfast is perfect for those cold and dewy mornings.

Spooky Finds

In the mood for something scary? Odessa is stocked with plenty of haunted and scary experiences for the thrill-seekers and the scaredy cats that get dragged along. Check out these haunted attractions to get in the Halloween spirit.

Bloody Bill’s Haunt- An Odessa classic for all things spooky and scary this time of year. See if you can endure the frights of this local haunted house. Keep an eye on their socials for dates and times for this year.

Visit Shafter Lake (Andrews)- An attempt to make it big in West Texas, a town was established around Andrews, Texas. The small town declined following the Smallpox epidemic leaving many dead. All that stands today is a ghost town and the cemetery with those who died in the short time the town was active. It is said that a few spooky characters still haunt the ghost town.

The Barn Door- Something spooky that you can go and do while still supporting your local businesses is by visiting Billy over at the Pecos Depot. The permanent ghost at the Barn Door has a seat saved for him every night where the staff will find leftover crumbs and glass rings from this meal. 

Kiss and Kill Homicide of Odessa High- Following a tragic event in the early 60s in Odessa, the ghost of an Odessa High student is said to still haunt the school’s auditorium. 

Historic Pecos County Jail- A little bit away from Odessa, but a fun day trip, will bring you to Fort Stockton for some historic and spooky fun. There are reports of ghost sightings and lights when the jail is closed at night.

 

Friday Night Lights & Fall Sports

Permian High School Sports- One of the original teams from the movie “Friday Night Lights” takes the field for another season of football. Go out and support one of your local high school teams and maybe go and relive your glory days if those were your old stomping grounds. 

Odessa High School Sports- Another local team to support is OHS. You’ll still get that FNL feel with the concession stand food, face paint, and the crisp fall evenings on the field. Check out their other sports teams and their schedules for more fall opportunities. 

UTPB Sports- The newly formed football team from UTPB has another season planned for them coming this fall. On top of football, volleyball is also in season for some air-conditioned fun if you’re less of an outdoors person. 

Odessa College Sports- If you’re wanting to experience the rodeo side of sports in Odessa, then OC is the hub of all things rodeo and roping. Check out their other sports teams as well this fall. 

Odessa Jackalopes Hockey- The season is set to start this September with games held at Odessa’s own coliseum. Enjoy some fun on the ice while also digging into that yummy concession food over at the Ector County Coliseum.

DBAT Fall Youth Camps- Another opportunity to get outside this season and strengthen those Baseball skills for the spring.

Adult Sand Volleyball League- The weather will be perfect for this one. Join other locals for lots of sandy fun and community.

Disc Golf- There are several options around Odessa for practicing your disc golf skills as well as tons of locals that gather for the sport.

With the season, we love any excuse to chow down on a bunch of food especially with friends and family. So you’re put in charge of hosting friendsgiving? These local spots will help you curate the perfect spread to keep everyone full and fed.
